Arkansas growers tend to think about the year in chunks, because the weather does not behave the same way for long. Spring is wet and violent. April and May bring storm lines that will shred a young plant with hail or wind before it has any structure to lose, and clay heavy ground in the Delta stays saturated long after the rain stops. Early summer is the good stretch, warm and bright with enough moisture to push real growth. Then late July and August turn into a heat and humidity grind, and September, which is when flower is filling, often brings the rain back at exactly the wrong time.
Where you are in the state changes the details. Up in the Ozarks and Ouachitas you get cooler nights, better airflow on a slope and a slightly shorter window. Down toward Pine Bluff and the Delta you get more heat, more humidity and heavier soil that needs amending or a raised bed to be worth anything.
Bud rot is the main one. Warm nights and still, wet air in September will find any tight cola. Defoliating for airflow, keeping plants off wet ground and finishing before the fall rains are the practical answers. Powdery mildew turns up in shaded hollows and against tree lines. Spider mites arrive in the dry stretch of August. None of this is exotic, but all of it shows up on a schedule you can predict, and planning around it beats reacting.
Open structure wins outdoors here, same as everywhere humid. The Old School lines and the Classics & Haze cuts hold up better in a wet September than a modern dense hybrid, and they tend to be tougher plants generally, which matters if you are growing somewhere you can only visit a few times a week. For anyone learning, Easy To Grow is the honest starting point. These are cuts that forgive a missed watering and a swing in feed.
Under lights the picture opens up. A controlled room in Arkansas is a real advantage, given what the outdoor weather does, and it is where the High THC selections and denser hybrids make sense. Sativa leaning plants handle the heat of an under insulated summer room better than heavy indicas, which is worth remembering before August.
