The Bluegrass around Lexington sits on limestone with fertile, well drained soil and genuinely good outdoor conditions, though the water off that limestone is hard. Eastern Kentucky and the Appalachian counties are steeper, wetter, more shaded by terrain, and the effective day length on a north facing slope is shorter than the almanac says. The Purchase region in the far west is flatter, hotter and closer to Delta humidity. Louisville and the Ohio river corridor get urban heat plus river moisture.
Kentucky gives a long frost free window, commonly 180 to 210 days, and around 14 hours 45 minutes of daylight at the summer peak. That is a lot of veg time, which is why outdoor plants here get big and why airflow through a large canopy becomes the whole game by August. Aggressive lower defoliation and honest plant spacing are not optional.
Limestone country means hard water with high bicarbonate that drags root zone pH upward over a run. If you are seeing iron deficiency in new growth despite feeding, that is usually the cause rather than a shortage of iron.
