Before you pick a single cut, run a test on what comes out of your tap or your well. Michigan sits on limestone, and most of the lower peninsula pulls water that is genuinely hard, often north of 300 ppm with alkalinity to match. Growers here spend more time fighting high pH drift and calcium buildup than they do fighting bugs. If your runoff pH keeps climbing and your leaf tips are showing odd lockout patterns, that is the water talking, not the clone. Either dial your feed around it or run through RO. Sorting this out first makes every other decision easier.
Lake effect is the defining feature of growing here. The same water that keeps spring cool and slow in April holds humidity into the fall, and that combination is hard on outdoor flower. Southern Michigan can get a full season in, roughly late May through early October. Traverse City and the north lose weeks off both ends. The Upper Peninsula is a genuinely short season and should be treated like a northern mountain climate, not like Detroit.
Michigan falls are wet. Cold rain, fog off the water, and overnight temperatures in the forties while daytime highs still hit seventy. Dense flower does not dry between rains, and botrytis takes hold in the middle of a cola where you cannot see it until it is everywhere. Two ways out of that. Finish earlier, or finish under cover.
Cold winters mean cheap cooling for most of the year and a lot of usable basement and pole barn space. Sealed rooms here run well from October to May. That is the window to push the dense, resin heavy material that outdoor cannot carry. Gas and OG and Dessert and Candy cuts do their best work in a room where you set the humidity yourself.
