Most growing guides warn about hard alkaline water. New Hampshire has the opposite issue. Granite bedrock, thin acidic forest soil and soft well water mean many growers here are starting below where they want to be on pH, with very little buffering capacity in the water to hold anything steady. Feed a soft water source the way you would feed a hard one and your medium drifts sour fast. Two fixes are common: add calcium and magnesium deliberately rather than assuming the water brings some, and lime your soil beds if you are planting in native ground. Well water in parts of the state also carries iron, which stains equipment and clogs drip emitters. Filter it.
The southern tier around Nashua and the seacoast gets a reasonable run, roughly late May into early October. North of the notches the season collapses. Frost can arrive in early September in the higher valleys, and cold air pools overnight in low spots even in August. If you are up there, treat it as a short season mountain climate: start clones indoors, get them out the moment nights allow, and choose only fast finishing cuts.
This is a heavily forested state, and the usual outdoor site here is a clearing surrounded by trees. That costs light in the morning and evening, and it kills airflow. Stagnant humid air under a canopy edge is how bud rot starts in September, when nights are cool, days are warm and dew sits on flower until mid morning. Open the site up more than feels necessary, keep plants off the ground, and prune the interior so air moves through instead of around.
Old New England housing plus a woodstove or forced hot air makes for extremely dry indoor air from December to March. Clones arriving into that go crispy before they root out. Keep new arrivals under a dome or a covered tray for the first several days, dim the light, and let them wake up slowly.
Monday through Wednesday only. No package should sit in a depot over a weekend. Every clone is rooted before it leaves our nursery room, so what arrives is a plant with a working root system, not a cutting hoping to strike. New Hampshire is a short transit for us, which is one less thing to worry about.
