This is the single most common way Utah growers lose good clones. Give a new plant an hour or two of direct morning sun on day one, then build up over ten days. Shade cloth at 20 to 30 percent for the first fortnight costs almost nothing and prevents the pale, crisped, stunted look that people mistake for nutrient burn. Once acclimated, plants respond to that light with genuinely dense growth and heavy resin production.
A 40 degree spread between afternoon high and pre-dawn low is normal in the mountains and not rare in the valleys. Warm days and cold nights pull anthocyanin colour out of cuts that would stay plain green elsewhere, which is a nice side effect. The problem is the tail end of the season: cold nights combined with any moisture at all invite grey mould into dense flowers, and frost can turn up in September at elevation. Row cover or a closable hoop house extends your window by weeks.
Afternoon humidity in the 10 to 25 percent range means bud rot pressure is low, which is the compensation for everything else. It also means constant watering, fast salt buildup in containers and ideal conditions for spider mites and russet mites. Flush containers more often than you think you need to. Utah tap water is hard and alkaline, often 250 to 500 ppm with pH above 7.5 thanks to limestone geology, so measure your starting EC and subtract it from your feed rather than dosing blind.
Broad-leaf, cold-tolerant plants that finish quickly do best outdoors.
