California growers are the most particular customers we have, and that is fair. This is where most of the cuts everybody else is chasing came from in the first place. So we will start with genetics rather than weather. The Breeder Cuts and Clone Only section is the part of the catalogue built for this audience, alongside Pheno Hunted selections that were kept because a specific plant out of a run earned it, not because the name sells. Nothing general is true across California. On the north coast and through the Emerald Triangle the fog is the defining problem: cool damp mornings that sit on a canopy into October and make botrytis the thing that decides your harvest. In the Central Valley the issue is inverted, with weeks of triple digit heat from Bakersfield to Redding, hard alkaline irrigation water and plants that transpire faster than most feeding schedules assume. Along the southern coast the marine layer keeps things mild and the season long, which is a genuine advantage. Inland and in the high desert you are dealing with heat, wind and cold nights in the same week.
The two statewide problems are water and fire. Well water in a lot of the state runs hard, and a grower who never tests it spends a season chasing a lockout that was in the tap all along. Wildfire smoke and ash through September and October are now a normal planning assumption rather than a bad year. Ash on wet flower does not come off, smoke cuts your usable light for days at a stretch, and growers who can pull a greenhouse closed or move to a filtered indoor space during a smoke event lose a lot less.
Coastal and foggy: choose airy structure and earlier finishers. A loose sativa leaning hybrid will make it through a north coast October in far better shape than a dense indica that traps moisture in every bract.
Valley and inland heat: density is not the enemy there, so the Dessert and Candy and Gas and OG lines are fair game, with shade cloth through the worst afternoons. Heat tolerance varies plant to plant more than people expect, and it is worth running two or three cuts side by side one season to find out which ones actually hold up in your yard.

We ship Monday through Wednesday only, so nothing sits in a depot over a weekend. Clones are rooted before they leave our own rooms, never sent as fresh cuttings. California is a short transit for us, which means less time in the box and less recovery on your end, but the shipping days do not change.
